Key Terms

Before preparing your samples for PhenoCycler (CODEX) imaging in the Enable lab, here is some terminology as used by our team:

• Block
  • A formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded (FFPE) or fresh frozen tissue specimen, ready to be sectioned and mounted
• Coverslip
  • Treated 22x22mm cover glass; for mounting samples to be imaged on Keyence microscope
  • Prepped and provided by Enable Medicine
• Replicate
  • Serial sections of any sample or sample array, mounted for Fusion microscope
  • Preventative against breakage or need to re-run experiments
• Sample
  • A uniquely identified tissue specimen
• Sample ID
  • The unique identifier for a given sample
• Slide
  • A standard, charged histology slide with dimensions of 1 inch x 3 inches; for mounting samples to be imaged on Fusion microscope

• TMA
  • Tissue Micro Array, an embedded set of multiple samples
  • If possible, include a clear fiducial in the array, especially when samples may be difficult to differentiate by eye

This layout shows sample cores, but a TMA can be any set of multiple samples on a single coverslip or slide

Acceptable Samples

1. Formalin-fixed, paraffin embedded (FFPE) tissue blocks.
2. Formalin-fixed, paraffin embedded (FFPE) tissue sections (3-7 microns) on coverslips or slides.

Please use standard fixation methods to preserve integrity. Fixation with 10% neutral-buffered formalin for 6-72 hours is recommended.

1. Flash or fresh frozen tissue samples in OCT blocks.
